My Five Year Plan

Hey guys & dolls,

Putting out last week’s blog really got me thinking about where I am in my life, the goals I’ve ticked off my list, and the new ones I still have my sights on.

I’ve just graduated Uni with First Class Honours, and got a really cool job on a big-budget movie that my nerdy-fifteen-year-old-self would have gagged to be within a mile of.

When I think of the progress I’ve made in the last 6 months, I realise how lucky I am that these things have come together for me and be grateful that I’m one of the few people who hasn’t been affected too badly by the pandemic.

That being said, I’ve also been thinking about the new goals that have arisen now that the previous ones are completed.

Being my pedantic, Type A self, I’ve compiled these goals into a list and given myself a time frame to achieve them in, and now I present my five-year plan.

I’m currently 22, and there are milestones, career goals, and purchases I want to make in the near future. So, from smallest to biggest, here are the things I want to have ticked off my to do list by the time I’m 27 (Disclaimer: I’m kinda shallow)

Hair Extensions

My fine hair has annoyed me since I was a teenager. Whilst it’s great to be able to curl my whole head of hair in 15 minutes, I’ve always been jealous of my friends’ big wigs. My skinny hair has annoyed me since I was 16, and it maxes out on growing any more than an inch or two past my collarbone.

So, as a fully functioning adult (with a savings account specifically for Hair & Beauty expenses…) I’ve decided to do something about it and will be getting another nice lady’s hair attached to my head by the time the year is out (I told you some of these were shallow)

Louboutin’s

Staying on my shallow narrative, I’m determined to secure myself a pair of those iconic red bottoms.  I’m really obsessed with the black, glossy So Kate, 120 mm heels (hello bunions!)

When the world reopens (and it will), I want to walk into a Cathedral Quarter bar, in a black satin top and tailored trousers, with the red bottomed heels. That’s the person I want to be, when I grow up.

Coordinator Credit

Now that my totally shallow purchases goals are out there, a career goal I’d love to tackle next would be to have a couple of coordinator credits under my belt in the next few years.

Given that the learning curve on my current job has basically been vertical, and I already have the word ‘coordinator’ on my CV, I know I can handle that role on another production.

After my transition from rusty, out-of-the-industry-for-a-year, TV Researcher to Digital Assets Coordinator on a big budget feature, I’ve proven that I can pick up a lot of brand-new information and run with it.

This job was in a department and genre that was completely alien to me, in a role I’d never heard of before. Not only could I pick up what I needed to know whilst on the job, but I can also be really good at it.

Not that it was without its challenges, but I’ve risen to those challenges and adapted quickly, and I’m really confident that I can rise to the challenges of an Art Dept or Production Coordinator role. So, within the next year or two, bring it on!

New Car

Now to talk about the BIG purchases I hope to make within the next 5 years, a new car is the highest on my priority list.

I’m still driving my first car, a 2008 Agila I’ve nicknamed Agnes or Aggie (old lady car, old lady name) and as much as I love her, the wee minx has been causing me too much trouble and I’ve decided I’m due an upgrade.

This part of my 5-year plan will hopefully be ticked off the list sooner rather than later, and I hope to be zooming about in a new(er) lil roadster this Autumn (sorry Aggie!)

A Mortgage … In St Anne’s Square, to be Exact

This one would definitely be more appropriate to include in a 10-year plan but I wouldn’t be being my most authentic, overachieving self if I didn’t even TRY to become a homeowner in a stylish area of the city centre by the time I was 27.

Living above St Anne’s Square would be my absolute dream area for my 20’s and early 30’s. Imagine being right outside The Mac, PureGym being next door, pubs and restaurants downstairs and being able to jump from my doorstep to the Cathedral Quarter!

A flat there is something I always dream about when I fantasise about living my best Friends / Sex in the City / Bougie Belfast Girl life.

My friends and family know I’m amazing at budgeting and I’m a pro at setting aside and saving money for the future, and keeping myself motivated (by torturing myself looking at available apartments on PropertyPal)

I know I have some huge goals on my list and I dream really big (my 20-year plan would make you sick…), I’m writing this blog and putting it out as an active way of manifesting the future and achievements I want for myself.

If my goals or circumstances change, I’ll adapt my process, time frame, and plan to achieve them. Whatever happens in the next 5, 10, or 20 years, I’m gonna re-share this blog and update on what I set my sights on next, so stay tuned.

I believe I can, so I will.
