WFTV NI Committee

I recently just attended the Women in Film & TV NI division committee meeting, after being invited by the amazing committee founder, Sarah McCaffrey.

Whilst I was fairly confident that I would be the committee member who was most wet-behind-the-ears, nothing could have prepared me for the calibre of professional women I get to be working with.

Our chairwoman is none other than Jannine Waddell (managing director of Waddell Media!), and she’s joined by Sarah McCaffrey (the fantastic lady I consider my ‘Media Mum’, who’s also currently working as a production co-ordinator on Game of Thrones), Kelda Crawford-McCann (of Crawford-McCann who made Watchdog and Rare Breed!), Dee Harvey of Controvert TV, Sian Barber (film lecturer at QUB), the brilliant solicitor Olivia O’Kane, and Christine Morrow from NI Screen!

Needless to say, as we went around the table and introduced ourselves and describing who we were and what we did, I could not have been more simultaneously intimidated and starstruck!

Whilst we went through our agenda for the meeting and discussed suggestions for potential events and classes/who could take them, my opportunity to shine came when we threw in ideas about how to promote them. I suggested we set up our own Women in Film & TV NI Twitter/Facebook (and later emailed Sarah about Instagram and Snapchat) accounts. Sarah will take this suggestion to WFTV UK and asked me to run them once we’ve our permissions sorted.

I’m absolutely over the moon to have the opportunity to be on a committee with these fantastic professional women, and to be introduced to even more female role models within the industry. I’m buzzing to be the Women in Film & TV NI’s social media girl and I will share links/URL’s to everything the second I have it all set up! This is such an important organisation to support other women in media and I’m truly honoured to be part of it!
