I Have A Cunning Plan...
On Thursday (19 Oct) I attended a talk held by Cinemagic at The Crescent Arts Centre. It was with Sir Tony Robinson and Belfast born director Brian Henry Martin. The head of my course at the Belfast Met was offered 22 free seats for students by Cinemagic and I jumped at the opportunity.
I know I want to be a producer in the future, but I’ve also been encouraged to try and get into presenting, so I was extremely excited to hear from Sir Tony Robinson as he’s been able to work in both roles throughout his career, as well as many others.
They talked about their project Britain’s Ancient Pathways (on Channel 4) and answered questions from the audience (made up of students and teachers)
I took the opportunity to ask Sir Tony Robinson about his experience as both a producer and actor/presenter and if he found the transition from in front of to behind the camera easy or find he was put in a box as ‘just an actor’. The question really engaged him and he replied that early in his career he just made sure to try out every role at some point so he personally didn’t struggle to jump in front of and behind the camera. This really encouraged me and I’ll make sure that I try my hand at every role I get a chance to.
I approached him after the talk to ask for a photograph (I watch the Blackadder Christmas special re-runs) since I couldn’t miss the opportunity for a photo-op with Baldrick! I told him I really enjoyed his talk and insight on the industry, and he was really nice and asked me where I was studying and about my course.
UTV were also attending and when they asked for volunteers to interview about the event I didn’t need to be asked twice! Whilst I ended up on the cutting room floor, I still got a close up in the audience shots so I can’t complain!
